Super Easy Way To Get Offline Clients

If you’re in the Offline Marketing arena (where you sell services to local businesses), you may be interested in this.

I know many people are not excited to go asking people for business… and lead generation is perhaps the hardest part of this business, BUT this method is a REALLY easy way to start getting clients quickly and build up your client list (for future promotions).

This method involves only ONE thing…

Set up a simple “blog” for small businesses that you sell for around $24.95.

Sound too cheap?

Well… it is.

But, I’m going to show you exactly how you can start earning a decent living even if all you do is get this one low-priced sale.

And the great thing is that this is a no-brainer for clients who fit the “profile”.

Here are the steps to get started with this lead generation model:

Step 1: Find a suitable free wordpress theme that you can replicate.

Here are some resources for free business themes:
http://slodive.com/freebies/free-business-wordpress-themes/
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/search.php?q=business
http://wplift.com/20-new-fresh-free-wordpress-themes-for-2012

Tip: Only pick ONE theme that is EASY to setup and configure (because chances are you’re going to be doing this… A LOT!) If you’re really motivated, you could give them a few choices (but I recommend you stick with just one at first).

Step 2: Setup a ‘sample blog’ (or even better – either use the same theme for your own “business” or build a freebie for a business owner). Make sure the site includes:

  1. Contact Form
  2. About Us
  3. What they do (who they are)
  4. The services they offer

(don’t make the site complicated. You must be able to build these sites quickly)

Step 3: This is where you will make the initial money…

Signup to the Hostgator Affiliate Program! (http://www.hostgator.com/affiliates.shtml)

Hostgator pays up to $125.00 per signup (minimum of $50).

For every customer that you get, you make them signup for hosting using your Hostgator affiliate link to get hosting for $0.01 the first month. You can setup a discount code that your clients can use inside the Hostgator affiliate dashboard (it’s the offer that says $9.95 off).

Just think of this, if you can sell ONE website for $24.95 each per day (not including weekends) you will get at least 21 signups via Hostgator and be eligible for their $125 commission, which equals to: $2,625.00 for the month.

Step 4: Contact customers.

The ideal prospect for this offer are small businesses without a website.

But how do you find them?

A good place to start is by using Google Places for local businesses.

Just search for various businesses: plumbers, electricians, privately owned retail shops and restaurants (like pizza parlors or sandwich shops / burger stands)

Simply cross reference these shops and see if they have a website (just because they’re in Google places does not mean they have a website).

Another option is your local directory / yellow pages. It astounds me how many people still rely on the local directory listings for business.

You can contact them via email, OR by simply sending them a letter with your offer.

If you aren’t averse to picking up the phone, you can of course call these businesses as well.

Another option is to advertise your offer through Craigslist and other directories.

If you want to do some grass roots marketing, you could of course print out some flyers or create a
simple post card explaining your offer (using something like Vistaprint) and drop them off at
businesses.

Make sure you setup a ‘business phone number’ (can be a voicemail box – I started by using a Skype number / voicemail for this) and your business site with a contact form where they can contact you.

When they contact you, get back to them RIGHT AWAY!

Step 5: Start Building

Once the customer agrees, you get the payment and proceed with the building of the site:

A. Get them a domain name (their business name if its available or whatever the customer likes). I use Namecheap.com, but you could use another (as long as it’s easy to “push” the domain to another account).

B. Have the customer sign up for hosting. You can either create step-by-step directions (including how to provide you with the nameserver info), OR do this step for them (provided they give you their credit card information – along with billing address).

C. Build the site – Make sure THEY provide you with the content (perhaps from a brochure they already have for their business). If they want you to create the content, you can easily charge them for this.

If you don’t know how to install a WordPress site, you can find people who will install everything for you on Fiverr.com.

Step 6: Offer them additional services.

Here are some examples:

- Content Creation
- Logo / Banner design (for custom header graphics)
- Search Engine Optimization
- Video Marketing (create their own branded YouTube channel)
- Social Media Marketing (Facebook fanpage creation etc.)
- Lead Capture System
- Press Releases
- SEO packages

I recommend that you setup a price sheet with various package deals that you can offer your clients.

That’s it…

Nothing terribly complex… and something you can start taking action on today!

      Thanks!

And yes, I agree… or you could even send some simple post cards or letters to businesses. Very easy (and non-threatening).

    Wow –

I slammed an example website and put up a craigslist ad a day ago & promptly forgot about it – just got a call from an excited new client tonight!

It works (if you take action).

    Steven,

    This is a great idea!

Thanks for spelling it out so clearly. I know there are more details of course, but the concept is something that is easy to wrap my head around.

It’s something that many of us have done for ourselves over the years, so why not do it for small businesses who are behind the times just looking for a no brainer?

I had heard of hosting companies paying large commissions on the front end, based on the fact that they know their customers will be with them for a long time.

    Thanks again for this idea.

This is very solid advice, you can expand on it by adding a telephone number with tracking to drive the leads. Nice post Stephen! thanks
