Higher Level of Thinking in 8 Steps?

I think it’s been several years since I first ran across this hour-long presentation by John Reese (of “Traffic Secrets” fame) on how to “Reboot Your Brain!” in order to set yourself up for marketing success.

I found this video to be very informative (particularly at the stage I was at when I first ran into this video) and the exercises extremely helpful.

I’ve outlined the steps in the video towards the bottom of this post, but be sure you watch the video BEFORE you read the steps (otherwise it will not make any sense).

Here’s the video (it will open in a new window):

And here are the 8 Steps:

1. The “To Do” Expedition

2. The “Desire Adventure”

3. The “Fear Discovery”

4. Read ALL the entries one-by-one OUT LOUD.

5. Write down additional thoughts as they pop into your head

6. Examine all of your Fear Discovery entries and think of possible solutions that can alleviate or eliminate your fears.

7. Examine your Desire entries and think of possible solutions to acquire them.

8. Prioritize your To Do entries

I highly encourage you to watch the video in its entirety and go through this exercise.

Thank you for this great information. It was a kick in the pants that I really needed.

The book, “Getting Things Done” by David Allen really goes deep into this kind of process. His concept is to manage all of your “stuff” including what’s in your head and on your todo lists. I highly recommend his book to anyone who is helped by this video.

In his book, he talks about having a “mind like water” which is a lot like what you are describing. One of the key points that he talks about, that you didn’t is putting this information into a trusted system, that you review as often as necessary. Having lists is great, but it’s most important to review these lists often enough that your mind can let go of the items because “it” can trust that you will see them on the list and accomplish them when necessary.

One concept that I don’t recall him talking about, that you did, is to not “hide” from your worries. Specifically, you relate this to debt. This concept was very helpful for me. It’s easy to feel like hiding from your problems would make them feel less intense, but I did find that by confronting them, I felt a great sense of relief. Thank you for recording this video!
