Notebook Tips: 12 Simple Niche Marketing Tips

Maybe you’re like me?

I have TONS of notebooks with all kinds of notes from various marketing seminars, courses and ebooks.

I was looking through one of my notebooks today, and came across tons of little tips in regards to niche marketing and traffic, so I thought I’d share 12 random niche marketing tips from my notebook.

These are listed in no partiular order:

  • Network! Get to know people and get a guest spot on blogs – in other words, communicate with other bloggers in your niche (start by contributing good quality comments… people will take notice).
  • Create a customer Avatar – Anytime you plan on building out a macro blog (authority site) or a new niche product, you need to understand your demographics and create a customer avatar for your niche. Get to know their “core desires”.
  • It’s not about you – everything you create and publish online should be about THEM, not you.
  • Use video! Video Marketing can be very powerful and can create near instant bonding with your audience and a strong relationship. Not to mention the fact that Youtube is the 3rd largest “search engine” online (and you can get ranked in Google’s universal search when done right). If you don’t submit a video about your niche on Youtube, someone else will (and they’re the ones that will rank on Google).
  • Be Genuine - people want to know the REAL you. (truly care about your readers / fans). This is true even if it’s a niche blog.
  • Article marketing still works… EzineArticles still rank well and is in the top 300 sites on the (according to Alexa). Learn to recycle your content (blog posts) and post them on article directories (wait at least 1 month before you do this though).
  • Giving away free stuff still works - give an “ethical bribe” for more traffic and larger lists. It’s working just as well today as it did 5 years ago. (don’t listen to the naysayers)
  • Become an authority – Create at least ONE site, that’s your ‘baby’.  Whether you’re an offline marketer, content creator, web designer or a niche marketer – you need to create at least ONE content rich site (I mean a site with hundreds or thousands of pages… not 4 or 5).
  • Leverage Press Releases – Press releases can be a near instant way to create tons of links. Several of these sites gets picked up by Google News, which means you could potentially get instant Google rankings (even if it’s for a short window of time).
  • Don’t be a cheapskate - Stop being cheap, and outsource the busy work! (I used to flip sites for quick profits and used that money to fund content for multiple new sites) Your time is worth a lot more than you think.
  • Use Forums for traffic – This still works! It’s one of my tried and true techniques for driving traffic to some of my larger niche sites (and it’s completely underutilized).
  • Recycle your traffic – one of the best ways to generate additional revenues and traffic to your blog is to recycle your traffic. Build a list, then simply send them back to new content on your blog.

    Hi Steven,

Great stuff as usual. The problem most online/offline marketer face is this confusion from joining too many list. And what do you expect, “Brain washing”. Everybody’s system is the best .Some will tell you forum marketing is dead others will tell you it rocks. This is where they set the confusion in.

Most of the traditional marketing techniques still work like charm, the most important thing is how you adopt them.

    Thanks

    Great tips!

As someone who has been around internet marketing awhile, and who is now providing content in that arena, I’m finding that being more ‘real’, putting myself out there more, and becoming an authority in my area is essential.

Also, now after having finished a few different projects, I realize I need to outsource more as well.
I’m a fan of your work and enjoy how you keep all this IM stuff as simple as possible.

Steve, Have you ever used the prweb.com service before for your press releases? Are they worth the higher price submissions?

    Cheers!

Thank you for the random facts:) Had a question about your article marketing. I need to get back into it, but do you mean make a post on your website and then wait a month to put it on ezine? Ive been using my post word for word on ezine to but thats the only place. Really didnt think it was a big deal. What do you think?

Wow great post Steve. Could not have said it better myself. All the above tips really work well but it must be done without any sort of “self promotional” material. You will get your comments approved and outsourcing will always work if you are willing to pay for it. But, you must research, and research some more before paying anyone any money for any type of work.
