Creating Raving Fans

About 15 years ago I was handed a video tape by my dad that was recorded during a lecture at Cornell University that he attended during a summer session for alumni that year.

The lecture was by a gentleman by the name of Ken Blanchard (I had no clue who that was at the time)… but honestly this lecture changed my life and business. It helped me build several successful businesses based on the principles taught in this lecture…

So what was the lecture about?

“Raving Fans”…

The idea of creating the “ideal customer experience”.

While the concept is pretty basic, it’s amazing how few people really take this to heart.

If you’ve checked out some of my products, you may have noticed that I often talk about customer experience, offering value added services and information, and about creating raving fans in most of my products whether it deals with creating niche blogs or small products you sell (heck, I even spoke a bit about this topic at the Earn 1K a Day seminar last year).

In the talk and his little book by the same name (which I recommend you pick up – you can get it from Amazon for $13 or so),  he spoke of creating the iwhat you can do to be different than everybody else to create that ideal customer experience. He also shared a principle he calls “Moments of Truth” (a term he got from Jan Carlson, the CEO of Scandinavian Airlines back in the 80s).

All of it ultimately creating what he calls “Raving Fans”.

I think it’s an invaluable business concept / principle(s), and in many ways this is the precursor to ‘tribe creation’ (which I’ll talk about in a future post).

Anyway, here’s a short interview with Ken I found where he explains the concept of raving fans and “moment of truths”:
