News Around The Web – Week of September 5, 2011

Here are some interesting tidbits I found around the web this week:

Plugins That Have Been Removed From the WordPress Plugin Directory:

15 plugins have recently been removed from the plugin directory due to security vulnerabilities. You can read more about it at WPSecure.net.

Interesting Mobile Marketing Statistics

Hubspot just shared some interesting statistics regarding mobile marketing. A few statistics that caught my eye:

-  The iPhone has grown 10 times faster than that of AOL (America Online)

- The average response rate on a text is 90 seconds, as opposed to 90 minutes for an email

- The redemption rate of text based coupons are 10 times higher than other coupons

Maybe there is something to the Mobile marketing thing after all. :)

You can read some more fascinating statistics about mobile marketing at HubSpot Blog.

Backup your Gmail and Facebook accounts (and more)!

Have you ever wondered if there’s an easy way to backup your Gmail or stuff on your Facebook account?

Now you can with a simple service called Backupify. They also backup your Blogger, Twitter, Zoho and Linked In data, and also offers a service that backs up Google Docs.

You can learn more about their service here: http://www.backupify.com/

Twitter’s “State of the Union” Event

At Twitter’s “State of the Union” Event they released some usage statistics. Here are some that caught my eye:

- Twitter gets over 400 million unique visitors.

- They have more than 230 million tweets a day

- Over 100 million active users (globally)

- 50 million people login to Twitter every day

If you’d like to read more data from this event, check out Greg Sterling’s blog post at Screenwerk.com.

(hmmm… I thought Twitter was dead. lol)

3 Things Customers and Clients Want

Ran into a cool blog post by Seth Godin about the Three things clients and customers want. I have often talked about the things people want in my blog posts and in my blogging courses. This is a slightly different way of looking at things…

(definitely some things to think about)
