News Around The Web – Week of August 29 2011

Here are some interesting tidbits I found around the web this week that I thought you might be interested in:

Why You Should Consider Adding Social Media Buttons To Your Site

There’s a new study by BrightEdge.com that talks about the impact of having (or not having) social media buttons on your web page(s).

The data, which was taken from the top TEN THOUSAND sites online, showed that webpages that have the “Tweet” button saw SEVEN TIMES more link mentions than webpages that did not have one! You can read more about it here: http://www.brightedge.com/2011-09-01-brightedge-September-social-share

Why You Shouldn’t Use Link Shorteners like Bit.ly

Aweber just released a list of blacklisted link shortening services, which showed that some of the MOST POPULAR services may not be a good choice to use when sending out your auto-responder emails.

You can see the entire list of these shorterners here: http://www.aweber.com/blog/email-deliverability/link-shorteners.htm

By the way, did you know that you can setup your own link shorterner (with all kinds of bells and whistles) by downloading and installing a free script at: http://yourls.org/

Increase your productivity with this Google Chrome Extension

Do you use any cool addons or extensions for your web browser?

One of your fellow readers of Super Simple Marketing, Lori, shared a great one in the article on “time management” about a cool little Google Chrome extension called “Strict Pomodoro”, you can use with the time management technique described in that article, here: http://supersimplemarketing.com/34/a-tomato-changed-my-business/

Ask.com is Returning To its Roots

Ask.com is starting to change away from being a search engine, to a real “Q&A” community (that is completely human powered by the way). Sort of like how it was years ago with AskJeeves.com (remember that one?). I use Ask.com quite often for ideas (during niche / keyword discovery sessions)… I’m thinking it might be another great resource like Yahoo Answers in a not too distant future.

Tom Loftus at WSJ wrote a pretty interesting article about the changes happening with Ask.com here: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2011/09/01/ask-com-wants-to-channel-your-inner-jeeves/

Tweeters LIKE Being Marketed To…

Did you know that Tweeters actually LIKE being marketed to. eMarketer.com just released an interesting statistics about people who follow brands and promoted tweets here: http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1008572
